Bell pepper is a long-cycle crop with a slower early growth rate than tomato or cucumber. In the first weeks the plant is drawing relatively little water, so a substrate that holds a large buffer can stay wet for too long and set the root system back for the whole season.
Later in the cycle the position reverses and water demand climbs sharply. A pepper substrate therefore has to be forgiving at both ends, which in practice usually means favouring air over buffer and steering with irrigation frequency instead.
A 50:50 cocopeat-to-chip blend, at 21% air-filled porosity and 5.66 L/kg water holding capacity, is our usual recommendation for long-cycle bell pepper. The higher air fraction protects the crop during slow early establishment without limiting it later.
An 80:20 blend, at 10.2% air-filled porosity and 6.73 L/kg, suits cooler climates and growers with tight irrigation control who want more buffer through the peak demand period.
A 20:80 blend, at 25.06% air-filled porosity, is worth trialling in hot climates or where root problems have shown up early in previous crops.
These are starting points from measured properties, not prescriptions. Tell us your climate, irrigation frequency and target drain percentage and we will suggest a ratio — including a custom one, since we blend to order.
Blend ratio, compressed and expanded dimensions, planting hole count and spacing, drainage hole position, EC level, buffering, film and print are all produced to order.
Full specification for all five blend ratios is on the coco grow bags page. Our testing and batch reporting is described on the quality page.
We are a manufacturer. Blending, compression, filling and packing happen at our own facility in Peravurani, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. Visitors are welcome.

Yes. Compressed and expanded dimensions, planting hole count and spacing, and drainage hole position are all made to order.
The 1:1.5 volume extract method. If your specification uses saturated media extract, tell us and we will supply the equivalent figure.
Our standard product is unbuffered, washed with water alone to below 0.5 mS/cm with no chemical treatment. Calcium buffering is a separate chemical process available on request, and for a long-cycle pepper crop on automated fertigation it is usually worth it.
Other crops we supply: Tomato · Strawberry · Cucumber · Blueberry
Our products: Coco grow bags · 5 kg blocks · Coco chips · 600 g bricks · Open-top bags · Coir fibre
Blending and packing are done to your requirement. Ratios, particle grade, compressed dimensions, hole configuration, film and print are all made to order. Tell us what your crop and your handling line need and we will produce to it.
Tell us your gutter spacing, plant density and irrigation frequency, and we will propose a specification.
Tell us your crop, growing system and volume, and we will propose a specification rather than send a brochure.
